Pediatric Service

The Pediatric Department is comprised of a 60-bed ward , which is made up of surgical and medical patients aged from 30 days to 15 years. This includes a 3-bed monitored high dependency unit, from which children may be admitted to the 5-bed mixed pediatric-adult Intensive Care Unit, if necessary. Children may be admitted from casualty or from clinic, or referred from other hospitals for specialized care of pneumonia, malnutrition, TB, meningitis, rickets, gastroenteritis with dehydration, HIV, birth defects and many other conditions.

The special care nursery is equipped with infant warmers and isolettes to care for up to 20 premature and sick neonates. Babies requiring respiratory support may receive oxygen or bubble CPAP, and under special conditions neonates may receive artificial ventilation in the nursery.
